Description

Besides just showing off the different ways to do line-art, I've noticed that the majority of sonic fanart is drawn in pretty much one style and one style alone.
And, If that's because you learn to draw, by ONLY copying cartoons, I cannot express this enough...
DON'T
I spent YEARS relearning how to draw from the ground up because of all the things I learned from copying without knowing what I was copying. It's BAD for you as an artist.
Obviously I have nothing against the sonic style, in fact I love it, but still, you have to be able to draw a human being as well as cartoon hedgehog if you want to be well rounded AND have an easier time. I mean, after all, what if you want to make your own comic one day about your fan characters? That involves backgrounds, buildings, huge establishing shots, ect.
Anyways.
Back to lineart and why I made this.
I want to nudge people with this tutorial in the right direction on thinking about "Okay, this is how so and so or SEGA draws sonic and sonic characters , how can I put my own flavor on it?"
I'm not saying to stop drawing him in his original body build or out of his anime style, but even little tweaks in lineart, colors, lighting, shading, ect, can REALLY do something awesome for you.
So yeah, think on that.
...
This was also an exercise for myself to make sure I still had the lineart game, as it's hard for me to do clean things thanks to my attention span of a gnat. I think I did decently. eh.
A lot of what I learned and presented here I got from this much larger tutorial on lineart that you can find here!

Good point. I still need to get around drawing a correct shaded boldline.
